Our commitment to sustainability has been embedded in our business practices for over two decades and is rooted in our purpose that 'Through sport, we have the power to change lives.'

Plastic waste is a problem, and it's reached a tipping point. As a big company, adidas has been a big contributor to the problem. Which is why its actions need to be equally as big. The brand has made a commitment to End Plastic Waste through innovation and partnerships.

Since 2012, adidas has innovated new products and processes with sustainability focused partners such as Parley for the Oceans, Stella McCartney and the U.S. International Space Station. After introducing a single shoe at the United Nations in 2015, the long-term eco-innovation partnership with Parley for the Oceans has since seen over 50 million pairs of adidas shoes being produced with Parley Ocean Plastic®.

We have a clear roadmap, with clear targets for 2025 and beyond. By 2025, nine out of ten adidas articles will be sustainable; by 2030, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30%; and we're working towards climate neutrality (GHG) across our entire value chain by 2050.

Visit the adidas Group website for more information.
Senior Brand Director at adidas SA, Kate Woods explains: “Globally, adidas is committed to ending plastic waste. And as the proud technical sponsor of the Cape Town Marathon, we're thrilled that water sachets will no longer be handed out at the events. We wanted to take this a step further by promoting a sustainable mindset beyond just race day, by offering residents who live along the route, a free recycling collection. We want to show how easy it is to recycle, and at the end of the two-month period, we’ll share stats that highlight how much waste was diverted from landfills and kept in a circular economy to potentially be used again. It's our hope that these results will encourage residents to continue with their recycling efforts in the long-term.“
Residents living in the following four suburbs along the Cape Town Marathon route are eligible for the adidas-funded recycling initiative in 2023: Claremont, Newlands, Observatory, and Rondebosch.
The first drop of yellow adidas recycling bags will be dropped off at your home on either Monday 09 October or Tuesday 10 October. Thereafter, you will receive new adidas recycling bags on the day that your recycling is collected.
Recycling will be collected from Wednesday 11 October 2023 until Friday 01 December 2023 on the following days:
  • Claremont => recycling collected each Wednesday from 08h30
  • Observatory => recycling collected each Wednesday from 10h30
  • Newlands => recycling collected each Thursday from 08h30
  • Rondebosch => recycling collected each Friday from 08h30
Only recycling placed in the yellow adidas recycling bag/s will be collected.
The adidas recycling initiative will run for 8 weeks, from Wednesday 11 October to Friday 01 December 2023.
If you are already a Clearer Conscience residential client, your current subscription will be extended by two months so that you can enjoy the benefit of the adidas recycling initiative. Please note: this applies to clients who have paid for residential collections only.
The adidas recycling initiative will collect plastic, glass, paper, cardboard and metal. Please refer to https://clearer.co.za/what-to-recycle/ for more info.
The adidas recycling initiative will not be collecting food waste, garden waste, disposable nappies, furniture, clothing, batteries or electronic goods
We will share the results of the community's efforts in diverting recyclable waste from going into City of Cape Town landfills. It's our hope that the results will be compelling enough to encourage residents to continue recycling in the long term because of the benefits to the environment.
We would love that! To assist with the transition, Clearer Conscience will offer a 10% discount to residents who wish to continue recycling once the adidas recycling initiative ends. To subscribe, please send an email to info@clearer.co.za with the subject line 'adidas recycling discount’.
